So, one of the hobbies that are currently hype and in great demand is the aquatic hobby. Starting from keeping koi, keeping goldfish, setting up a saltwater aquarium, setting up an aquascape, and even keeping a predatory fish. Anyway talking about predatory fish, this aquatic hobby was once known as a hobby of rich people or upper class hobbyists only. The reasons are of course because the price of predatory fish itself is quite expensive, requires extra care, varied foods etc. However, as time goes by, this fosh hobbyist is starting to get a lot of interest and of course there are more predatory fish lovers communities. 1. Flowerhorn ( Amphilophus trimaculatus )
Had dimmed in recent years, this fish is now being glanced at! This fish with a distinctive prominent forehead is the result of hybrid interbreeding of many cichlid species that are not yet known for certain. Despite their beautiful complexions and adorable looks, flowerhorn fish are known to be an aggressive fish. For this reason these fish are predominantly placed in solitary aquariums, which is means they are kept alone. But even so, flowerhorn are smart and can be taught simple tricks of they are trained diligently.
2. Oscar ( Astronotus ocellatus )
Still in the same family as Flowerhorn, this fish that is included in the Cichlidae family is one of the predatory fish from the Amazon River which is pretty popular. Black-colored with a bright orange/ red hue, this fish is quite 'calm' compared to other predatory fish. So it is suitable to be combined in a community tank. Types of Oscar fish that are popular in the market are Slayer Oscar, Batik oscar, Paris oscar, Tiger oscar, and the most unique there's Oscar Albino too.
3. Peacock Bass ( Chicla )
Originally from amazon, this predator is known by the acronym name Pbass. Peacock bass/ Pbass has a beautiful body complexion and mostly suitable to be combined with your community tank predatory fish, because even though its face looks frightening, it compromises when combined with other predatory fish. Pbass fish are also greedy and ravenous in eating their prey. Talking about the types, they have a lot of types. Starting from Monoculus peacock bass, Ocellaris p.bass, Orinoco, etc.
4. Arowana ( Scleropages formosus )
Who doesn't know this fish? Arowana have always been excellent for predatory fish lovers. This fish with a graceful swimming style is said to indicate a high status for its owner. Its an exclusive fish and the price is quite fantastic. There are Jardini Arowana, this one is native fish from Papua. Then, there are super red arowana, Black Golden, and the most expensive there is Platinum Arowana.
5. Bichir ( Polypterus Senegalus)
Bichir or what is commonly called dragon fish. They shape looks primitive because according to the research, bichir are 'living fossil' from the evolutionary history of fish. Bichir are nocturnal fish that can walk! They walk uisng their fins on the chest and tail to move. Besides that, it also has hard scales and a strong jaw, this fish easily crushes the prey they have spotted. If you want to maintain a calm bichir, you can try to pet albino bichir. But if you're looking for the grim one, you can try Endlicheri Bichir.
6. Snakehead ( Channa )
The last and the most popular predator fish on our lists is Channa. Formerly known as consumption fish, this snakehead fish is now being kept and even has its own contest too! Entering the Channidae family, this fish is popular becuase it has a fightening appearance, and also an aggressive of 'fierce' personality. Channa fish treatment is quite easy. There are many kind of channa fish, for example Marulioides Channa, Asiatica, Andrao, Auranti, and the most expensive is Barca channa which reaches up to $3000 per fish.
