Top 5 Aquarium Predators (Freshwater Fish) 5. Archer Fish
archerfish

The archer fish comes to us from around the world, some places include the Philippines and Indonesia. As its name might suggest it's well known for its ability to shoot down prey that is perched just above the water. The prey in most cases small insects are stunned by its premisis stream shot of water and in most cases fall down to the surface of the water where the archer is early approaching it. This fish grows about 4 inches and it will require a special aquarium setup that is of you want to see them in action.

4. Arowana Fish
arowana

The arowana needs no introduction, its aggressive personality, its favorite among experienced aquarist. And the fact that it can grow up to 3 feet in an aquarium makes it a danger to virtually all freshwater fish. The arowana is compatible with large aggressive fish like giant plecos or oscars but it's often kept alone. And if you've ever wondered where they're from, the arowana come to us from a few places around the world including Asia, and South America.

3. Wolf Fish

In despite the fact the wolf fish only gets about 8 inches in size. There should be taken very seriously as a sharp teeth can make it dangerous to perform simple aquarium maintenance and this guys look very cool perso, I almost took one home with me but the thing about the wolf fish is that they prefer an entire aquarium devoted to them and will kill any small to medium sized fish set to place with. They are compatible with some larger aggressive fish but if you're into a lone hunter or in this case a lone wolf that will gobble up live foods on a daily basis this might be the fish for you.

2. Aligator Gar

Gar have a unique shape to them but it's their snout that gets everybody's attention. Their snout is full of very sharp teeth that prove useful as their diet consist almost entirely of live foods. The gar comes in many sizes. I've seen some small white gars that only get about few inches. And there are also gar that get a few feet in length.

1. Piranha
piranha

You probably already knew, this fish would end up to our top five aquarium predator list. The piranhas and the only thing i can say about the piranhas is that other fish eat live foods you know like feeder fish, goldfish. Piranhas shred live food fish and mammals anything that moves that gets dropped into the aquarium and I am not going to advise you to go watch live feedings of them as they get really graphic but there is a distinct difference in swallowing the goldfish and ripping apart a small mammal piece by piece. Because of that as far as freshwater fishes go, the piranha is clearly the top aquarium predator.
